About PCPS

Founded in 1977, the Private Companies Practice Section (PCPS), the AICPA Alliance for CPA firms, is an association of over 45,000 CPA practice units that serve private companies. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is the national professional organization of CPAs with more than 327,000 individual members.

As a condition of membership in PCPS, firms participate in a demanding quality control program that includes a peer review of their accounting and auditing practice every three years, the results of which are available to the public, and can be accessed at www.aicpa.org. In addition, all firm client service professionals must average 40 hours of continuing professional education every year.

PCPS firms also work together to look out for the interests of small and medium-sized businesses. They analyze issues, regulations and technical standards that affect their clients’ ability to operate effectively, and make their viewpoints known to the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and to rule-making bodies within the AICPA, primarily through Technical Issues Committee (TIC). As a member of TIC, our Audit Partner, Kay Filler, is one of 15 partners from firms across the nation that regularly meet with FASB board members and the financial reporting and professional ethics standards-setters of the AICPA to advocate on behalf of private companies and the CPAs that serve them, including submitting comment letters in the standard-setting due process when considered necessary.

2008 Peer Review Report Says PTRFB Among The Best in the U.S

Since 1988, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) has required that its member firms in the U.S. performing audits, reviews, or compilations for corporations or other entities undergo a peer review every three years and conduct ongoing internal monitoring to verify that CPA firms are adhering to strict quality control standards in conducting financial reporting engagements. Firms that conduct audits, like Perisho Tombor Ramirez Filler & Brown, are subject to the most rigorous peer review scope.

The AICPA peer review process is an integral part of the profession’s practice quality monitoring program. The peer review verifies that the firm’s quality control policies and procedures are consistently followed, and includes reviews of selected accounting and auditing engagements for adherence to professional standards for CPAs.

  • 86% of accounting firms receive “unmodified” peer review reports, meaning that no significant deficiencies have been noted. However, most firms also receive a letter of comments from the peer review team indicating a need for certain corrective actions. The firm is then required to respond in writing to an oversight committee describing the corrective actions it intends to take.
  • Each year less than 25% of CPA firms nationwide earn an unmodified peer review report without comments, the best evaluation possible.
  • Since our founding in 1991, Perisho Tombor Ramirez Filler & Brown has undergone a total of six peer reviews. Each of our six peer reviews has been unmodified without comments. This is the highest evaluation given by the AICPA.

Looking for an accounting firm that you can trust? One that provides quality information? You need a CPA firm that is a leader in quality, integrity and service. Perisho Tombor Ramirez Filler & Brown is proud to be among an elite group of accounting firms in the United States having the distinction of earning six consecutive unmodified peer review reports without comments, which represents almost two decades of quality financial reporting.
